Trip to Hakodate part 1 函館に旅行 パート1
Last summer I while I was visiting in Aomori I took a 2 day trip to Hokkaido the northern island of Japan. This was my first time visit to Hokkaido, I stayed in a city called Hakodate which is famous for it’s delicious seafood, sushi & especially for tuna, squid, salmon roe, sea urchin and crab.
I took a train from Hirosaki city to Aomori city (sucks that suica doesn’t work there yet)
I left very early so a lot of students were going to school as well.
business men were going to work too
I was waiting for the right bus to take me to the Aomori harbor and this weird small bus came around and I was a bit worried if I took the right bus but in the end it took me to the harbor.
It was all empty too.
At the harbor I was like “Wuuuhuu! I made it” and naturally I assumed that this ship was the one I was taking to Hakodate.
But I was mistaken a bit but the ship that took me there was not half bad and to be honest a more interesting experience.
At the waiting area I was relaxing watching tv and eating a bit
Onigiri and french fries !
look at my ticket! They made a small mistake when they were making it. My last name is Helminen not Heminen but gladly I did not have any problems with that.
To go inside the ship I had to go through the same way as the Trucks and cars go, I think the ship was mostly meant for vehicles than people.

The ship had a cup noodle vending machine which I loved ![]()

This is the area of the ship where I stayed and watched tv. There were also two tatami rooms if you wanted to sleep.

There was this interesting poster of what not to do in the ship.

The trip took about 5 hours or so if I remember correctly. It was a interesting time to go to Hakodate by ship because there was a huge typhoon going on so the ship was rocking a lot but soon as I saw Hokkaido coast I was happy !

In Hakodate I even saw snow ! even tho it was the begin of summer in Japan.

Hakodate is like most places in north Japan that do not accept Suica but they did accept their own version of Suica Called Kitaca.

This was the station I had to run in the pouring rain from the harbor. Looks kinda small but it was comfy.

The Hakodate station was very nice considering the beautiful architecture, it kinda looked like a ship.

After I got settled in to my hotel I took a stroll out in to the city to see what was close by and I found this amazing “fast food” restaurant called Lucky Pierrot (ラッキーピエロ), the sad thing is that they don’t have any of these places in southern Japan like in Tokyo.

I have a love/hate relationship of the amount of ice they put in to the drinks in Japan but once you get used to it, it is not that bad.

these french fries were fantastic!

I liked the decor of the place as well

Just look at these hamburgers!!

I tried to take couple of photos of the menu for you guys ![]()

As you can see they have everything !

Bought some tasty Green tea Pino from the combini close to my hotel !

Because of the typhoon I could not go up to the mountain that is close by to Hakodate that is said to have one of the most beautiful panorama views in the world. Here is a photo from my hotel window tho hehe.

On another note here was some mix photos again
Me sleeping in the ship terminal a bit

a Cat spying me while I was editing photos ![]()

and I’ll end this post by showing you this cute cat I found in Hakodate !

To be continued in part 2
